    Exclamation Text Message Phishing

Almost everyone is aware of email phishing attacks which can happen. Email is actually an extremely insecure method of communication. It's fairly easy for anyone to pretend to be someone they're not to try and get information out of you.

    Text Messages

Text Messages have recently started to be used by banks, phone companies and all sorts of other businesses for different reasons. This means that they have grabbed the attention of criminals.

    Fake Text Messages

The only way that you know a text message has come from your bank is because it says so. This is actually fairly easy to fake which makes phishing attacks possible.

    Danger of Text Messages

If you received a text message saying that your card has been used abroad and to contact the bank on a certain number if it's not you then you might be worried.

Contacting the number you think is your bank could actually be the criminals. By doing this they would be able to get lots of your personal information including your account number, sort code, security details and even your mothers maiden name.

    What to Do

If you ever receive a message from your bank or anyone else don't ring the number inside it. Instead look on the Internet for the actual contact number or check your account balance on the Internet.

No matter what venu you are talking about, they will figure out a way to phish it. Scams are all over the place and it is getting worse not better.

Just be sensible and you should be fine. Never react to some message from your bank or what you think is your bank. Phone them instead and you'll find out most times it's a scam.

Yes I agree. But I can imagine how easy it is to fall for these scams in the heat of the moment. Especially when they are now sent directly to your phone. Most peoples first response if they think they have lost money is to find out where it's gone.

Maybe banks could have a certain pass phrase to include in messages to ensure their authenticity. Although all of the email and text message systems really need to be made much more secure.
