This week I thought it would be interesting to look at offshore merchant accounts and their benefits. It's something that can quite often be difficult to learn about. Throughout this week if you have any questions about offshore merchant accounts then please ask them in this forum and I will help out.

Many businesses are looking for a way to increase their profits while reducing their tax liability. This is why so many large businesses have off shore bank accounts. It's also possible to get offshore merchant accounts if you wish.

Merchant Accounts in the US
If you accept credit cards then you will already have a merchant account. However many people want to know whether there would be any advantages for them to use offshore merchant accounts instead of those located in the US.

One of the best things about US merchant accounts is that they are often much cheaper than offshore accounts. This is because the market is very competitive. This has caused the costs to come down considerably.

However using a merchant account in the US can be a problem for some businesses. Many banks in the US are very picky about who they award the prized merchant accounts to. Others will want to hold a minimum of $2000-$5000 in reserve to protect from charge backs. This is a huge chunk of money and isn't something that many people can afford.

Some people will even have their merchant account services withdrawn from them without warning for doing well. If your business suddenly doubles its monthly turnover for example then this might be viewed as suspicious.

Offshore Merchant Accounts
Quite often using offshore merchant accounts will make it easier to find one that understands your business. All of the offshore merchant accounts are based in European countries. This provides safety because the financial regulations are stricter and more similar to in the US.

Tax Benefits
One of the best advantages of using offshore merchant accounts is that it has tax advantages. However they will normally cost more to run because the fees are higher than normal US rates. This is because the European merchant account market isn't yet quite as competitive as the US.

Safety
All of these merchant accounts have bee in business for over 30 years. This means that they are trusted and often accept customers who haven't been in business for as long without a large deposit.

Many of these offshore accounts will also have better customer service. They are easier to use if you have a separate company incorporated in Europe as this will be an effective way of controlling everything.
