I quit using PayPal
I quit using PayPal some time ago. I had two accounts hacked within a year and the first one hurt me bad. They drained my bank account and my credit card was maxed out.
With the second account I got smarter. I opened a bank account and kept it empty and used a CC with only a $300.00 limit.
However, with the second hacking I hadn't been using the account, I had switched to Google Checkout, they used it to create a buy now button and processed a bunch of stolen credit cards, after altering my bank info to theirs. Now PayPal says I owe them 508 dollars for fees, which I refuse to pay.
Good bye PayPal, you won't see me again.
I use Google checkout for purchases and Alert Pay for subscription stuff.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with PayPal. I had my account hacked once, I believe it was due to spyware on my PC. They only took the money out of my account and didn't touch any of my cards.
I don't really think that the security is good enough. You can log into paypal with a username and password. But to log onto internet banking you need many more pieces of information including security numbers and in some cases even an e-token. Perhaps some form of digital certificate stored on your computer would provide some protection.
I may not like Paypal but I still keep an account open for payments. I think paypal is a very important payment option as it has a fairly good reputation with customers.
