I don't recall Google having any non standard "holding" time, though I haven't used them in quite a while. I know they held funds for a day or so on a $500 transaction, but come on, that's only in their best interest.

Myself, I've used authnet for years now, and love it. The fees are a bit out there compared to paypal, but the benefits are there too. They have the funds in my bank account within 48 hours, and paypal can take some time to do.

Paypal has it's benefits as well, though their "security measures" have ticked me off to no end. 4 times since January I've had my account suspended because of these ridiculous things, and that's the highest it's been ever. I think in the 9+ years I've been doing business with them, I haven't ever hit a "security measure" until this January. Bah!

I use PayPal both for myself and for customers. Typically my customers are smaller merchants who are selling a relatively small number of items. As far as I have seen, PayPal has the easiest to use interface and has the easiest integration for the smaller stores.

Depending on what your volume is you can get into the Interchange-Plus pricing model which is very good at lowering rates for the most part. Message me if you have any questions about it.

We are currently using Card Services Int. through the Linkpoint.net gateway but we are looking for better and more cost effective options.

The one problem I've had with paypal in the past is in doing large volume of transactions in short time periods and having them hold everything. Not that they're bad guys, because they're not... But the bigger you get the more you need to get away from them and get into a situation where you have more control (and direct contact) with the people you trust to handle your money.

I use RBS Worldpay, although I have the invisible XML installation option so that it works like a regular merchant account!

I do also accept payments through Paypal although it's very expensive and the exchange rates they give you are terrible sometimes!
